Project Report: Swallowdale

A beautiful Lakeland Home is

sympathetically extended

Victorian properties built in Lakeland Slate are everyone’s dream – but the

layout and rooms don’t quite fit with modern living. The owners of Swallowdale

wanted a garden room and an office adding to their property.

The Garden room was carefully designed by the owner, Alec Burford to make

the most of the sloping site – extending beyond the corner of the house to

ensure external access was to level ground.

The existing double garage was altered to leave a single garage but also give

a generous office and utility room. To enhance the road-side appearance of

the property, the wall was finished in Lakeland stone by our craftsmen and

the roof was ridge-tiled to blend in with the main property.

Alec said “I chose Cook and Lakin to undertake this sensitive work because of

the quality of the work they have done for me before. Both I and my wife are

thoroughly delighted with the results.”
